HUG
2019, Experimental Design
What’s the meaning of “hug”? Different people have different answers of this question. It starts with a booklet called “Dictionary of Hug”, including the hand-writing of one word that fist comes to mind when they think about hug and a description of why they choose this word.
As thinking more about hug, hug itself is basically two things touching each other, so that the video is created to present objects demonstrating hug.

Drowning
2019, Experimental Design
A color study begins with a set of blue colors. Colors are printed on acetate so that the process of flipping through the increasingly lighter pages is similar to the experience of going to the surface of the sea.
There is a quote engraved on the inside of the cover so that viewers can only read it when they see the bottom blue of the sea. “You must long for freedom, as a drowning man long for air” is split into two parts: “You must long for freedom, as a drowning man long for” on the cover and “air” on the back. Because air only exists at the surface of the sea.
The book is made by acetate and acrylic board. Fishline is used to settle stitch bind this book so that each spread can be fully opened and the transparency of materials would not affect the overall aesthetic of the book.

Deserted Space
2019, Experimental Design
It is a group project collaborated with Xubai Li and Summer Zheng, starting with mapping the space next to the parking lot under Edge College Hill Apartment. As the research of this space goes deeper, the space becomes sad with disposals as a “Deserted Space". To incorporate the found objects within the area, an encrypted narrative of three fictional characters in the form of a board game is created. The game set includes four components: an instruction card, a collection of imagery, a gaming template, and an abstract map of the real site. Each character has his own pattern at the back of the imagery and the template, and the patterns are all based on the same grid. After matching all the images, the life stories around this space of each character emerge.
